This is an excellent guidebook to the Big Island, which my family and I used extensively during our recent vacation there. There was so much good, accurate information packed between its covers, that we couldn’t go wrong. Everything we needed was there, current and direct, and extremely well organized. There were descriptions and directions to even the remotest beaches on the island. We also hiked some of the trails described in it in the Volcanoes National Park, and found the information on length and difficulty level to be accurate to a fault. In an era when all the guidebooks out there are trying to contort themselves into “hidden” and “revealed,” with kids and without kids, one-eyed and two-eyed, it’s refreshing to find a good, clean, forthright guidebook such as this. I applaud the authors.

The guide is far too general to help you make informed decisions. Stopped carrying it after two days on the Big Island. Never even read it on Maui. There are better guides out there.
