Mosquitoes on the Big Island of Hawaii?
I’ll be going to the Big Island of Hawaii in around 2 weeks. Are there a lot of mosquitoes there? Is so, are they mainly on the East side of the Island where it is wetter, or are the insects present everywhere on the island near areas that are close to water?

My Dad lives on the Big Island and I have spent a lot of time in Hilo and also Kona. This time of year the mosquitoes are not too bad but in the summer…look out. I woke up some mornings with a lot of bites on my legs. They are present everywhere on the island. Deet is definitely something you will want if you are going on Hikes while you are there. During the day it is not as bad as the night and if there is a breeze then you will be fine. Have Fun on the Big Island!
