I am vacationing on the Big Island (Hawaii). What can I do for fun?
I like to snorkal, beaches, and volcanoes but I don’t know what the best places to visit are.

I am 17 year old girl from mailbu california and a pretty big surfer ……….I f it was me or anyone for that matter , try to hit pipline(Not surf it!!!), but just see it, 50 foot waves are not something you se everyday.
you can sell peanuts in the beach , swim or snorkel in the volcano larva for fun
FYI: Pipeline is on Oahu, not the Big Island.
I used to live on the Big Island (Kona side), so here are some ideas:
snorkeling - rent your gear from Snorkel Bob’s in Kailua-Kona. Cheap and decent stuff. $9 for the El Cheapo package and it’s suitable. You can find some great snorkeling at Kahalu’u in Kailua-Kona and Two Step at the Place of Refuge (Honaunau).
beaches - Hapuna and Mauna Kea (south Kohala area) are among the best on the island! Tons of light, beautiful sand and gorgeous blue water as far as the eye can see. Mauna Kea tends to be more calm whereas Hapuna has some decent waves. You can also try Kona Coast State Park and Kua Bay (closer to Kailua-Kona than Hapuna and Mauna Kea).
volcanoes - the Big Island consists of five volcanoes, but the only currently active one is Kilauea, which is close to the Hilo side of the island. Kilauea has been active since 1983 but just recently has been spewing a LOT of lava, creating acres and acres of new land. It’s really quite spectacular to see, and I highly recommend planning to spend 1-2 full days in Volcanoes National Park in order to see it all. Make sure to follow the park rangers’ instructions and DO NOT walk out onto the lava bench, which can break off and fall into the ocean without warning! You’d probably be surprised to find out how many visitors die each year in Volcanoes National Park just because they weren’t following the rules or using common sense.
I was there with my family this past March. My niece really enjoyed surfing lessons at Kahalu’u Beach Park. It is my understanding the snorkeling here is amazing. You can also see a lot of Sea Turtles.

1. visit the different colored beaches–especially Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach is great too
2. snorkeling is just about everywhere–on the hilo side get to the tide pools-i forgot their exact name but everyone will know what you’re talking about–on kona side you can stop just about anywhere on the road–capt cook’s monument is a great spot but requires a kayak rental to reach it
3. hike to the lava at night
